The Blockchain Society Berlin Conference of Influence @ Minespider

The Blockchain Society hosted a special Influence Conference exclusively for investors, regulators, corporate and blockchain thought leaders in partnership with Minespider at their offices in Berlin. It was an enriching experience travelling to Europe and learning about how the blockchain wave there has manifested itself into multiple different innovative and creative problem-solving solutions.

Following some opening remarks from The Blockchain Society, Dr. Mervyn Maistry delivered a keynote speech outlining his extensive experience in the IT sector as well as holding an MBA in Corporate Finance and IT from the University of Cape Town. He was previously a Managing Partner at Ernst and Young in Digital Strategy & Innovation, BlockChain, Digital Innovation Lab Concepts. In 2017, he founded Kondid.io, a venture studio specializing in blockchain and artificial intelligence. Kondid’s team has more than 20 years of consulting experience as well as a talented tech team who provide end-to-end solutions to a range of clients in the health, auto, finance, and technology sectors.

Sam Williams, CEO of the Arweave project, was also in attendence, and share some information with those assembled about the process of creating a network that provides permanent information storage for the first time. Sam has been building decentralized and distributed systems with Erlang, from operating systems to blockchains, for around 10 years. He is also a PhD candidate at the University of Kent.

Gonzalo Sanchez Slik then spoke about his current role at Brickblock, and the process of sourcing and building relationships with real estate developers and fund managers through his work. Brickblock is a turnkey technical service provider offering these clients the tools to create more liquidity and a simple on-boarding process for international investors.

Simon Schwerin, Director of BusDev, spoke after Gonzaloe about his work with enterprises on blockchain solutions over that past three years. Having written his Master’s thesis with special attention to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). He holds a M.Sc. in Business Intelligence and Process Management from Berlin School of Economics and Law, as well as a Bachelor’s in International Business.Previously he worked in business strategy and project management at BigchainDB. He also has experience in the financial, healthcare and IT-consulting sectors. Simon is the Director of Business Development and Investor Relations at Xain.

Thomas Schubert, LL.M. (Boston) is a partner in Dentons’ Berlin office. He is part of the Corporate/M&A as well as Venture Technology groups. Thomas focusses on advising national and international companies and investors on M&A transactions, corporate reorganizations and insolvencies. Furthermore, he advises clients on private equity investments, venture capital participations and joint ventures. Thomas' main area of expertise lies within the technology sector. He has a particular focus on the energy and renewable energy industry. Further engagements of Thomas include advising clients from the IT industry and aspiring growth companies on the implementation of innovative digital business models, including blockchain technology. Prior to joining Dentons, Thomas was a partner at another leading technology focused law firm.

Speaker Nathan Williams is a Reg-Tech startup founder from Montreal, Canada, living in Berlin since 2013. His startup, Minespider, uses a blockchain token system to track conflict free minerals up the supply chain. When not working on his startups, Nathan helps to organize and moderate events for the Bundesverband Deutsche Startups.

Nele Wollert, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Fractal Launchpad, was also present to discuss their token launch software company focused on compliance and usability. Fractal has helped launch Singapore based protocols like the Ocean and Goodchain. Fractal received venture funding from the German Government Federal VC fund Coparion among others and could win advisors like Bruce Pon and Fabian Vogelsteller. Nele recently worked as a senior complex sales executive at Google and App Annie before jumping into the leadership position with Fractal. With a background in media and film studies, having studied and worked in Berlin, Copenhagen and Dublin, Nele is someone you should share a beer with.
